#BelieveMyPain the Advil Pain Equity Project
The Advil Pain Equity Project is a national initiative created by Advil in partnership with BLKHLTH and Morehouse School of Medicine to address one of the most common and harmful forms of bias in healthcare: the under-treatment and dismissal of Black pain.
Research shows that Black patients are less likely to be offered pain relief, more likely to have their symptoms questioned, and often expected to tolerate more pain without complaint. This project was created to interrupt that pattern and to give both patients and providers new tools to navigate it.
Through the #BelieveMyPain campaign, we created a public-facing platform that validates the pain Black communities carry — physically, emotionally, and generationally — and offers practical resources for naming, understanding, and advocating for better care.
What you’ll find:
Conversation guides for preparing to talk with a provider
Visual tools to describe symptoms and track how pain shows up
Self-advocacy worksheets for people who want to document and organize their experiences
Education for providers to learn about improving care for patients in pain
Data and research that show how pain bias shows up across healthcare
These tools are grounded in cultural humility and real-world use. They are designed to be shared, adapted, and used by anyone looking to make care more honest, more validating, and more responsive.
