BLKHLTH Cancer Equity

Fighting Cancer at the Root

Supporting community-led efforts to uncover risks, share knowledge, and expand access to care where it’s needed most.

BLKHLTH's Cancer Equity program aims to fix unfair systems that make Black communities more likely to get preventable and treatable cancers.

We tackle the main problems—like pollution in Black neighborhoods and distrust of doctors—and create better healthcare options that are designed by and for local communities. We don't just want to raise awareness; we want to create lasting improvements.

Program Overview

Rooted in local knowledge and lived experience, this is an evolving body of work made up of place-based projects that respond to the specific needs of Black communities.

Whether investigating cancer clusters or distributing screening kits, each effort supports a larger goal of equity in prevention, education, and care.

Our Focus

How We Show Up

We meet people where they are, using trusted language, community power, and culturally grounded tools to reduce cancer risk.

  • Environmental Justice

Investigating how racism in housing, zoning, and pollution creates long-term health risks.

  • Culturally Relevant Education

Building trust through tools, campaigns, and conversations rooted in our language and experiences.

  • Access and Early Detection

Removing the barriers that keep people from screening, understanding results, or getting support.
