Resources for Black Birthing People
A collection of rights-based resources to help Black birthing people advocate for themselves in medical spaces.
Supporting Black Birthing People Starts with Listening and Tools That Work
Black birthing people in the United States face higher rates of complications, trauma, and maternal death. These outcomes are not caused by their bodies, but by the systems that are supposed to provide care. From delayed diagnoses to dismissed symptoms, the risks are real and preventable.
That is why BLKHLTH created a dedicated resource hub for Black birthing people, their families, and the providers who support them. The page includes tools to prepare for prenatal and postpartum visits, identify urgent warning signs, and speak up when something feels off.
You will also find:
A conversation guide for medical appointments
A list of symptoms that need immediate medical attention
Personal stories from those who have experienced complications
Tips for partners, friends, and family
Clinical guidance for OB-GYNs, nurses, midwives, and pediatricians
Birth should feel supported, not unsafe. These tools are here to help Black birthing people feel more informed, confident, and protected throughout pregnancy and recovery.
